The latest news report reveals that not only will the iPhone 15 series come with USB Type-C charging ports, but some existing models of iPhone 14 will also be relaunched with the new charging ports, possibly signaling the end of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max models. In Short

  • Apple is rumored to release new versions of existing iPhone 14 models with USB Type-C charging ports, along with the iPhone 15 series.
  • A tweet suggests that there are references to six unreleased iPhone models, potentially including two iPhone 14 models and four iPhone 15 iterations.
  • The change to USB-C charging may be influenced by EU regulations that require common charging ports for consumer electronics.

Ever since the arrival of the iPhone 14 in the market, rumors have been swirling that Apple might bring the iPhone 15 series with USB Type-C charging, in accordance with EU regulations. However, a new piece of reports suggests that some of the existing models of iPhone 14 will also be relaunched with new charging ports.

As the calendar inches closer to September, Apple fans are gearing up for the anticipated unveiling of the latest iPhone. This time, it's the iPhone 15 that's stealing the spotlight, and it's set to bring along a significant transformation – the adoption of USB-C charging. While chatter online has been buzzing with speculations about the iPhone 15 bidding farewell to the familiar Lightning port, recent revelations hint at a broader shift that might affect even more iPhones.

A tweet from user @aaronp613 has ignited a fresh wave of excitement. The post revealed that hidden within the tvOS 17 beta code were references to not just the iPhone 15, but also to six other

unreleased iPhone models. Among these, four were identified as potential iPhone 15 iterations, while the remaining two were speculated to be part of the iPhone 14 family, possibly the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, according to insights from BGR.

Notably, this development seems to indicate that Apple could discontinue its iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max models upon the iPhone 15's debut. This is a customary practice for Apple, ensuring that the previous generation's Pro models step aside to make way for the latest innovation, thus preventing any competition within their own lineup.

However, winds of change began to blow in 2018 when Apple introduced USB-C charging with the iPad Pro. This shift signified an acknowledgment of the evolving industry standards and a potential shift away from the Lightning cable. Surprisingly, while all iPad models embraced USB-C charging, the iPhone has remained tethered to the Lightning port.

One of the driving forces behind this change is the European Union (EU), which has been working diligently to establish a mandate requiring all consumer electronics to adopt a common charging port – USB-C. This regulation, enforced last year, compels tech giants to comply by 2024 or face consequences within the EU market.
