The escalating conflict between the Congress government and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractors in Karnataka has taken a new turn. The BBMP Contractors Association has decided to halt all work until their pending bills are cleared by the government. This decision comes in the wake of allegations made by the contractors against the government for seeking commissions and stalling bill payments.
The controversy began when the Congress, during its tenure in opposition, accused the then-ruling BJP government of demanding a 40% commission. Now, the tables have turned with the BJP, currently in opposition, alleging that the present Siddaramaiah-led Congress government is demanding a 55% commission.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has assured the contractors that their dues will be cleared. However, he also hinted at a possible political conspiracy behind some of these allegations.
