Bihar Finance Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary on Thursday alleged that the BJP government in Manipur took sides during the clashes and it fuelled the situation. He urged the central government to take “serious course correction measures” in Manipur rather than “making baseless claims”.

“The Centre and the state governments have categorically failed in handling the Manipur crisis,” the Janata Dal (United) minister said in Patna.

Attacking the BJP, Chaudhary said even Amit Shah’s visit to the state could not bring any solution.

“The double-engine governments have failed. Authorities have failed in containing the situation even as home minister Amit Shah made three trips to Manipur,” Chaudhari said.

He also alleged that “years-long hard work” by previous governments in the Centre and the state to maintain peace in Maniour had been in vain due to the recent clashes.

Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said the issue in Manipur is “related to the national interest” and “requires brainstorming of all stakeholders”.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said the rift between the Meitei and Kuki communities has widened due to the violence. Kiren Rijiju said the Centre is trying to bring peace back to the northeastern state.

“There are years-long differences between them, but we are trying to bring back peace,” the minister said.
