Video | Huge boulders roll down hill during landslide in Himachal’s Mandi

Huge boulders rolled down a hill after rain-induced landslides struck Pandoh in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. Roads were blocked, leaving commuters stranded on Friday morning. So far, 234 people have died in rain-related incidents and road accidents in the state since the onset of the monsoon. Himachal Pradesh has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 6,742 crore, according to the emergency centre. About 160 roads are still closed in the state. The local meteorological office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rains from Thursday to Sunday. It has predicted a wet spell in the region till August 15. It also cautioned of landslides, flash floods, mudslides and an increase in water flow in rivers and nullahs.

Delhi High Court issues notice to NewsClick, its editor on probe agency plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday sought the stand of news portal NewsClick and its editor-in-chief on a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking vacation of an earlier order granting them protection from coercive action in a money laundering case. Issuing a notice to NewsClick and its editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha, Justice Saurabh Banerjee observed that prima facie, the investigation agency's submissions for vacation of interim protection have merit and require deliberation.

'PayCS' posters targeting Karnataka Agriculture Minister appear in Mandya

Taking a cue from the Karnataka Congress unit's campaign before assembly election, posters of 'PayCS' with a QR Code emerged in public places in the district headquarters town of Mandya targeting state Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy on Thursday over alleged corruption. The police removed the posters and detained some persons who are said to be BJP workers.

10 Kuki-Zo MLAs urge PM Modi not to withdraw Assam Rifles

The Meitei and Kuki MLAs of Manipur have written separate letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and made conflicting demands over the presence of Assam Rifles in the ethnic strife-affected state. While 40 legislators, most of whom are Meiteis, sought removal of the country’s oldest para-military force from the northeastern state, 10 Kuki MLAs urged Modi not to do so asserting this could jeopardise the security of the tribals. Assam Rifles and other central forces including the Army were deployed in Manipur in early May to control the situation after clashes between Meiteis and Kukis broke out.
