Infinix GT 10 Pro review: Best gaming phone under Rs 20,000?

By Ankita Chakravarti: Infinix's latest smartphone, the Infinix GT 10 Pro, has created a lot of buzz in the market even before its official release. And that's somewhat rare for an Infinix phone. Now, the primary reason behind this hype is its Nothing Phone-inspired design. The newly launched smartphone has taken cues from the Nothing Phone and is designed keeping in mind gaming-centric buyers bundled with great performance. Of course, there are a few areas for improvement as well, which we will talk about later in this review.

Of late, we have seen the Chinese smartphone company introduce a couple of interesting smartphones for Indian consumers but the GT 10 Pro is different and special. Priced below Rs 20,000, the Infinix GT 10 Pro offers a compelling array of features to attract consumers looking for a capable phone in the price segment. To summarise: the smartphone is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8050 processor coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and there’s also a 108-megapixel camera setup. Additionally, it comes equipped with gaming controls and fingertip features for an enhanced gaming experience, although these perks are exclusive to the first 5000 buyers.

On paper, the specifications of the new Infinix phone look promising but are the real-life experience as good? I have been using the GT 10 Pro for around a week now and believe it to be a capable phone for the price, especially for the gamers out there. Infinix GT 10 Pro: Design

After looking at the Infinix GT 10 Pro, I can understand Nothing co-founder Carl Pei's frustration. The device is inspired by the Nothing Phone, and from afar, it's easy to mistake one for the other. However, the Infinix GT 10 Pro doesn't entirely feature a transparent design, so one cannot see its insides as is the case with the Nothing Phone. Instead, it has textures on the rear panel that resemble the ones on the Nothing Phone, which the company calls the Cyber Meca design. One interesting aspect of the Infinix GT 10 Pro is the customizable mini-LED indicator housed within the camera compartment of the device. This sets it apart from the Nothing Phone, which features a Glyph interface with multiple LED lights on the rear panel.

Turning to the rear, a prominent camera module catches the eye. It shares the same texture as the back panel. Within this module, two large camera sensors are placed vertically, accompanied by another sensor and an LED ring light, which adds a unique twist to the traditional flashlight function.

At the top of the smartphone, there’s the microphone while at the bottom there is the USB Type-C port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and the speaker grille. One thing that didn't particularly appeal to me was the glossy finish on the frame of the smartphone. It seemed to detract from the overall design.

The Infinix GT 10 Pro comes in two enticing color options. The one I received for review was the Mirage Silver variant, which looked elegant, but personally, I feel the Cyber Black option enhances the phone's futuristic and gaming-oriented appearance even more.

Overall, the design aspect is highly subjective, but in my opinion, the phone is crafted quite well, even though it draws inspiration from other brands. The device exudes a gaming-centric and punky vibe that is likely to resonate with young buyers.

As for the build quality, the Infinix GT 10 Pro features an all-plastic body, which contributes to its lightweight and makes it an easy-to-handle feel. The flat edges of the phone remind me of the iPhone design, giving it a sleek and modern look.

Infinix GT 10 Pro: Display

The Infinix GT 10 Pro boasts a 6.67-inch screen with a resolution of 1080x2040 pixels, delivering a peak brightness of 900 nits. Additionally, the display impressively supports a high refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. In real-world usage, the screen remains bright and easily readable even under direct sunlight.

The color reproduction on the display is punchy and vibrant, providing an enjoyable visual experience. The thin bezels around the corners add to the immersive viewing experience, allowing the content to shine without distractions. I watched a couple of shows and videos on the phone and had a satisfying viewing experience. The speakers, while not exceedingly loud, still make the device a suitable choice for individuals who enjoy watching shows and videos on the go.

Infinix GT 10 Pro: Performance and battery

From the moment I set up the device, I was impressed by the blazing speed of the Infinix GT 10 Pro. The swift performance becomes evident as soon as you unlock the device and start scrolling through apps. Powered by the Dimensity 8050 processor and accompanied by 8GB RAM, the device also offers 8GB of extended RAM and ample 256GB of internal storage. This combination ensures seamless multitasking and a smooth user experience.

I noticed a significant improvement in the Infinix GT 10 Pro, which is the absence of bloatware. In the past, Infinix smartphones were overloaded with unnecessary apps, but this new model runs on Android 13 with Infinix's latest Pure XOS. It's refreshing to see that the phone is now free from all those spammy apps. The interface looks much cleaner compared to previous Infinix phones.

During my week of using the device, I didn't encounter any lags while browsing websites or switching between apps. The phone also didn't have any heating issues, except for when the camera app was left running for more than 15 minutes, which caused some heat.

In terms of benchmarking scores, the Infinix GT 10 Pro performed impressively. It achieved a single-core score of 1102 and a multi-core score of 3398 on Geekbench 6. These scores indicate its solid performance, and I can confidently say that the phone delivers even better results in real-life usage. Surprisingly, I also recently tested the Realme 11 Pro+, which is almost Rs 5000 more expensive than the Infinix phone, but the latter scored better in both benchmarking and actual usage.

Now, coming to the gaming performance, if you are one of the lucky 5000 buyers, you will get the gaming controls as well as the finger sleeves to play the game better. I have personally tested Asphalt 9 and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) on the Infinix GT 10 Pro and found the gaming experience to be impressive.

Even under high graphic settings, the phone performed flawlessly, and there were no frame drops while playing games like BGMI, Asphalt, and other graphics-intensive titles. The smooth gaming experience added to the overall positive impression of the phone. Additionally, I noticed that the phone did not heat up even after 30 minutes of gaming, which is a crucial factor for comfortable gaming sessions. In this department, Infinix has truly delivered on its promise and designed the phone to meet the requirements of serious gamers.

Infinix GT 10 Pro: Battery

The Infinix GT 10 Pro is equipped with a 5000mAh battery and supports a 45W fast charger. To assess its battery performance, I conducted a test using the LAB501 battery app, which involves playing a video on a loop while recording the battery drop and time. During the test, the battery only showed a drop of 3 per cent after continuously playing the video for more than 30 minutes. I initiated the test with the phone's battery at 88 per cent, and after the 30-minute playback, it decreased to 85 per cent.

Moreover, with regular usage like web browsing, app switching, and other typical tasks, the phone could easily last for more than a day on a single charge. The battery life proved to be impressive, making it a reliable device for day-to-day usage.

Infinix GT 10 Pro: Camera

This is one area where the Infinix Gt 10 Pro could have been much better, in my opinion. I was a bit disappointed with its camera performance. Even though it has a 108-megapixel camera, the picture quality is not up to par with other smartphones that use the same camera sensor.

In daylight, the pictures lack sharpness and important details, making them look less clear. Some photos also appear a bit faded. Despite having a decent shutter speed, the camera struggles to capture fine details effectively. The macro shots turn out dull and uninspiring. In low-light conditions, the camera performs only averagely, with details and sharpness missing from the images. It also has difficulty getting the white balance right, affecting the overall color accuracy.

On the brighter side, the front camera (selfie camera) did a better job, capturing decent pictures with accurate skin tones and details.

Infinix GT 10 Pro: Should you buy?

The Infinix GT 10 Pro impresses with its fast performance, long-lasting battery, and gaming capabilities. The design, inspired by the Nothing Phone, looks modern and appeals to young buyers. The display is vibrant, and the phone runs smoothly with minimal bloatware. However, the camera performance is a letdown, as the 108-megapixel setup fails to deliver sharp and detailed pictures in both daylight and low-light conditions. Despite all the improvements that the phone requires, it offers good value for its price in my opinion, especially for gamers seeking a reliable and efficient device.
