The incident occurred on Wednesday night as students rushed upon hearing a loud sound in the hostel campus and found Swapnodeep lying in a pool of blood. Injured, he was taken to KPC Medical College for treatment, where he died at 4.30 am on Thursday, police said.

Police source claims that the body was found on the ground in a naked condition. Some injury marks were also visible on the body.

FAMILY ALLEGES RAGGING

His family alleged that Swapnodeep was a victim of ragging and said that he had called his parents on Wednesday night. He was excited after his first class but expressed fear only after spending a day in the main hostel.

"He said that he was fearing something, and also asked his parents to take him back," said the family of the student.

"We were supposed to come to the University on Thursday after his appeal," Swapnodeep's mother said.

The family lodged a complaint based on which police have initiated an investigation.
