  • Shaw hit 15 fours and 7 sixes in his knock
  • Shaw is the leading run-scorer in the England One-Day Cup

Prithvi Shaw is not showing signs of stopping in the ongoing England One-Day Cup. The right-handed batter scored a double hundred against Somerset two days ago and he backed it up with another century, this time against Durham on Sunday, August 13 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.

Shaw blazed his way to scoring an unbeaten 125 runs off 76 balls with the help of 15 fours and seven sixes. The 23-year-old batter played at a strike-rate of 164.47 as the Northants Steelbacks chased down 199 with 24.2 overs to spare.

In the 26th over of the run-chase, Shaw smashed right-arm off break bowler George Drissell for a four followed by two sixes to bring the curtains down on the match. He was also involved in a partnership of 109 runs with Rob Keogh and it turned out to be the decisive factor in the context of the game.

Shaw is currently in the form of his life as he is the leading run-scorer in the ongoing tournament. He is the leading run-scorer in the championship, having racked up 429 runs from four matches at an average of 143 and a strike-rate of 152.66 with a top score of 244.

It has been more than two years since Shaw last played for the Indian team on the tour of Sri Lanka. India are yet to name their squads for the Asia Cup and the World Cup to be played later this year. It remains to be seen if Shaw can catch the eyes of the national selectors and break back into the Indian team.

Earlier this year, he had a disappointing campaign with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and was even dropped from the playing XI.

He made his debut for India back in 2018 in a Test against West Indies where he scored a hundred. He became the Player of the Series that time, but life has not been easy for Shaw from there on.
