  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 to go on sale on August 18, with pre-booked buyers getting it earlier.
  • Five reasons to buy the Galaxy Z Fold 5: new hinge mechanism, 7.6-inch screen, fast and smooth performance, good battery life, cool camera tricks.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 along with the Z Flip 5 is all set to go on its first sale on August 18. Interested buyers who have already pre-booked the device will get it earlier than people who plan to buy it when the sale window opens. I got to use it for a week and found five cool reasons to consider having one. But I'll also tell you about a couple of things you might want to think about before jumping in. So here are five good reasons to buy the foldable phone and two reasons to skip it.

--New hinge mechanism

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 might appear similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 on the outside, but the real difference becomes apparent the moment you hold the Fold 5 in one hand and the Fold 4 in the other. I conducted a comparison using my palms as a sort of weighing scale, and I immediately noticed how much lighter and more compact the Galaxy Z Fold 5 feels when compared to the Fold 4. The smartphone now has a weight of just 253 grams. When folded, the Fold 5 is only 13.4 mm thick.

The new way the phone folds is really cool. At first, it was a bit hard to open, and I had to push a little to make it unfold. But, the more I used it, the easier it got. Now, when I open it, it's really smooth, and the best part is that it doesn't make any noise. Before, it used to make creaking sounds, but not anymore. This change in how it folds makes it feel like a really fancy and smooth experience for me.

--The 7.6-inch screen is a delight for movie lovers

Open it up, and bam! You've got a gigantic 7.6-inch screen. That's like having a mini movie theater. I loved watching videos and playing games on it. It felt like I was in the game or the movie. It's perfect for when you want to binge-watch your favorite shows.

--Super fast and super smooth performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, especially curated for the Galaxy series. I could use lots of apps at once without any problems. It's like a multitasking wizard. Switching between apps was a breeze, and everything ran really smoothly.

--Good battery life despite multiple screens

The battery surprised me. It lasted all day, even with me using it a lot. I was scrolling through social media, watching videos, and playing games. I didn't have to worry about running out of battery. Plus, it charges up decently if you pair it with the compatible 25W fast charger.

--Cool camera tricks

Taking pictures was fun with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It has different camera lenses that let me be creative. I could take clear and colorful photos. Even in dim light, the pictures turned out pretty good.

But Wait, There Are a Few Things...

--Getting Used to the narrow Screen

When I first started using the cover screen, it felt a little different. It's not as wide as the usual phones, so the icons and the keyboard seemed smaller and a bit crowded. Even when I tried to make things bigger, it only changed the text size, not the size of the keyboard and icons. But, as time went on, I got used to the smaller space. If you are moving on from a non-foldable device, you might find a bit weird to adjust to the cover screen. However, that is hardly an issue and one can get used to it with time.

The price may not be suitable for everyone

While the display size and features of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 may be attractive to you, it doesn't come cheap. In fact, it carries a hefty price tag of Rs 1,64,999 for the 512GB variant. So, while I didn't find any flaws with the phone itself, the price might be a barrier for some individuals. In such cases, they could consider opting for the smaller, more compact, and more affordable Z Flip 5.
