Outgoing Prime Minister of Pakistan (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday elected Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar as the caretaker PM of the country after holding two rounds of consultations with Raja Riaz, leader of the opposition in Pakistan's National Assembly (NA).

The decision came three days after Pakistan's parliament was dissolved by President Dr Arif Alvi on outgoing PM Shehbaz Sharif's advice, setting the stage for a national election amid political and economic crises.

“We have finally reached a consensus that Anwaarul Haq Kakar will be the caretaker PM,” Riaz added in his remarks.

Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar will be sworn in as the caretaker PM of Pakistan on Sunday, August 13.
