Speculation were rife after NCP president Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who heads the group of rebel MLAs of the party, had a “secret” meeting in Pune. Responding to a question about the meeting with Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar, in turn, asked, “What is wrong with meeting my nephew?”

Ajit Pawar along with several NCP MLAs had joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra in July, triggering a split in Sharad Pawar’s party. The crisis had further weakened the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance of NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.

The recent meeting of Sharad Pawar with nephew Ajit had set the political circles abuzz. However, Sharad Pawar on Sunday said, "I want to tell you a fact that he is my nephew. What is wrong with meeting my nephew? If a senior person in a family desires to meet another family member, there should not be any issue with that."

‘NCP WON'T GO WITH BJP: SHARAD PAWAR

Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar categorically stated that his party will not align with the BJP, despite the efforts of some "well-wishers" attempting to sway him.

“As the national president of the NCP, I am making it clear that my party (NCP) will not go with the BJP. Any association with the Bharatiya Janata Party does not fit in NCP's political policy,” Sharad Pawar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

"Some of us (Ajit Pawar-led NCP group) have taken a different stand. Some of our well-wishers are trying to see if there can be any change in our stand. That is why they are trying to have a cordial discussion with us,” he said without taking names.
