The use of ChatGPT at the workplace is slowly becoming a common practice. And as per a recent Reuters report, dating website Tinder doesn't officially allow its employees to use the viral AI tool.

Tinder employees use ChatGPT

The employee, who is based out of the US, was quoted by Reuters, saying that workers at Tinder use ChatGPT for 'harmless tasks' even though they are officially not permitted to do so.

"It's regular emails. Very non-consequential, like making funny calendar invites for team events, farewell emails when someone is leaving ... We also use it for general research," the employee said. The report reveals further that the employee declined to be named because they were not authorised to speak with reporters.

The employee added that the company has a 'no ChatGPT rule' in place. However, that does not stop the employees and they use it in a 'generic way that doesn't reveal anything about them being at Tinder'.

Tinder, on the other hand, said that it provided 'regular guidance to employees on best security and data practices'.

When Samsung banned ChatGPT

Tinder is not the only company that has stopped its employees from using ChatGPT. In May this year, Samsung asked its employees not to use ChatGPT at work over concerns about data transmitted through such AI tools being stored on external servers, making it difficult to retrieve and delete.

A memo sent by the company to its employees said, “Interest in generative AI platforms such as ChatGPT has been growing internally and externally. While this interest focuses on the usefulness and efficiency of these platforms, there are also growing concerns about security risks presented by generative AI.”

Further, Samsung told employees that any violation could lead to termination of employment. The memo added, “We ask that you diligently adhere to our security guideline and failure to do so may result in a breach or compromise of company information resulting in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.”

Meanwhile, ChatGPT's parent company, OpenAI, might be in financial trouble if they don't start making profits soon, as per a report by Analytics India Magazine. According to the report, ChatGPT saw a decline in its userbase in June and it dipped further in July. Moreover, the company's using its financial resources in order to run ChatGPT, that costs over Rs 5 crore to operate everyday.

The report added that Microsoft's investment of USD 10 billion might be keeping the company going at the moment, but OpenAI is far from reaching its targeted USD 1 billion revenue by the end of 2024.
