The death toll from the Maui wildfires is now at 89, officials said on Saturday, making it the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century. The scale of the damage came into sharper focus on Saturday, as search teams with cadaver dogs sifted through the ruins of Lahaina, four days after a fast-moving blaze leveled the historic resort town, obliterating buildings and melting cars. The cost to rebuild Lahaina was estimated at $5.5 billion, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), with more than 2,200 structures damaged or destroyed and more than 2,100 acres (850 hectares) burned. Governor Josh Green warned at a news conference on Saturday afternoon that the death toll would continue to rise as more bodies were discovered.
Two more arrests have been made in the alleged ragging and suspected suicide of an 18-year-old Jadavpur University student. Deepshekhar Dutta and Manotosh Ghosh, both second-year students, were arrested for their alleged involvement. Earlier, ex-student Sourabh Chowdhury was also arrested and placed in police custody until August 22. Chowdhury, who studied Mathematics, had been living illegally in the hostel.
A Hindu temple in Canada’s British Columbia was vandalised with Khalistan referendum posters pasted on the main door of the temple at midnight on Saturday. The poster read, “Canada investigates India’s role in June 18th assassination”. The poster at the door also had a photo of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Hardeep Singh Nijjar was the head of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara Sahib in Canada’s Surrey.

The diary had entries, reporting on significant decisions in state affairs and suggesting a notable sway over Imran Khan's actions, as per The News International.
