Meanwhile, his opening partner Gill also fell at the hands of Hossien, being caught LBW in the third over. Gill scored nine runs off as many balls, hitting a solitary boundary to leave India reeling at 17 for 2.

Their performance was a stark contrast to what we saw in the fourth match of the series when the duo stitched a 165-run stand for the opening wicket. Their incredible partnership helped India register a comfortable nine-wicket win over the hosts and level the five-match series 2-2 despite losing the opening two games.

Gill scored 77 runs off 47 deliveries, hitting three boundaries and five maximums, while Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 84 runs off 51 balls, smashing 11 fours and three sixes.

In the first innings, Shimron Hetmyer hit 61 runs off 39 balls and Shai Hope scored a 29-ball 45 to propel the hosts to a total of 178 for 8 in 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh picked three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav claimed two.

The 165-run stand also equaled India’s record for the highest first-wicket stand in the shortest format of the game, going level with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s 165-run opening stand against Sri Lanka in 2017. They are followed by Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma's 160-run stand against Ireland (2018), Dhawan and Rohit's 158-run stand against New Zealand (2017) and Rahul and Rohit's 140-run stand against Afghanistan (2021).
